What is the Rise Above Award?

We, at Oasis Christian Center, would like to attract candidates that truly have risen above circumstances and situations and are still pursuing a path of excellence.

  • Nominees must be a high school senior (alternative schools included)
  • Must live in Tallahassee or surrounding areas (Leon, Jefferson or Gadsden County)
  • Must have at least a 2.5 GPA (transcript required)
  • Three (3) letters of recommendation: one letter from a core class teacher/guidance counselor, one letter from a community organization, and one letter from a volunteer service organization
  • College Admission Letter – must submit a copy of the letter verifying acceptance into a community college, university, or trade school for an upcoming term.
  • Documentation of Volunteer Hours – must provide official documentation of volunteer hours worked while a high school student.
  • Must have at least 50 hours of community service
  • Must be currently involved in an extracurricular activity
  • Submit a 1500-word paper or 3-5-minute video explaining the things you have had to ‘Rise Above’ and your plans after graduation
  • Parent’s Tax 1040 Tax Return – must submit the first page only of your parent’s most recent tax return

All requested material must be received by 5 p.m. EST on April 26, 2024. Incomplete applications will not be considered. Notified award finalists must submit an official high school transcript and attend the Treasured Women Gala on Friday, May 17, 2024.   • Must attend the Gala for the entire event and agree to pay for a ticket or have it deducted from the prize.
  • Must submit a headshot
  • Must agree to photo and name being used for promotional purposes by OCC
  • By submitting this application, you agree that the information is true to the best of their knowledge
  • All documentation is used only for awarding purposes and information will not be shared or sold.
  • $500 to $1,000 Scholarship (subject to sponsorship donations)
  • Formal Award Presentation
